During his transition from a large Manhattan-based private equity
consulting firm, the senior partner of a new hedge fund needed
help setting up offices and processes.
Start U Up worked in two
phases.
Phase I:
- Assisted in securing short-term office space
- Maintained
books and records until the start-up was completed
Phase II:
- Guided selection of permanent office space, layout, and
furniture
- Created internal control structure and
accounting and reporting systems
- Set up Prime Broker relationship and
executing broker documentation
- Created corporate governance infrastructure
- Crafted reporting procedures
to the primary investor to facilitate timely, accurate 13-d and related
SEC and regulatory filings
- Formalized Code of Ethics and employee
manual
- Oversaw final agreements for
the fund and management company
Nine months after the fund’s launch,
Start U Up was re-engaged when the CFO position was vacated.
In our current capacity, Start U Up:
- Serves as the outsourced compliance officer, CFO
and human resources ombudsman for employee
complaint resolution
- Manages and monitors the outside fund accountants
- Functions as a liaison
to the accountants, lawyers and executive staff of the parent company
